For SMUS students interested in rowing for the school please contact Head Coach, Susanne Walker Curry directly at Susanne.Walker-Curry@smus.ca
For students interested in rowing for the GNRC Junior Program, please contact the office at 250-995-2290. Last year the club saw much growth under the strong leadership of Head Coach, Scott Swinkels. With strong performances at all the regattas we attended, including our club's first medals at the Brentwood Regatta and CSSRAs, we are on a strong trajectory forward.
It was hard to say good-bye to 10 of our graduating athletes this year, but with an ever growing base in our Junior B and C ranks, we continue to be poised for success. We are always accepting new rowers with any level of experience (including none!). We are equipped with well trained coaches to help our athletes reach for their goals.
For more information please contact the rowing office at 250-995-2290.
We encourage every high school rower to take the opportunity to train and compete with their school team. We also recognize that it is important to offer some athletes the consistency and quality of our club training program and training environment in order for them to meet their performance goals.
The Gorge Narrows Fall Performance Program is intended for athletes wanting to compete at the national and international level; targeting regattas such as the Junior National Team Trials, CSSRAs, Canadian Henley, or Royal Henley. There are a limited number of seats in the program and admittance is by application (application deadline is by Sunday August 20th, end of day). Most training will happen in small boats (1X/2X) to support athletes' specific performance goals. Athletes will train a minimum of 6 practices a week, with weights or cross training in addition and at an additional cost. This structure and volume is designed to maximize athletes' performances.
During the fall season, athletes will race at the Head and Tail of the Gorge Regatta. Other optional regattas available to this group include the Head of the Lake in Seattle and the National Rowing Championships (NRCs). An extra charge would be required for either trip.
In selecting athletes for this program we will look at a combination of previous results, on water speed, testing data, technique, attitude, and effort, among other factors. Athletes who apply should anticipate meeting with the head coach to discuss their goals, process, and suitability.
Dates: September 5th – November 5th, 2017
Practice Schedule: M-F 4pm-6:15pm, Sat 12:30pm-2:30pm
Application deadline is by end of day Sunday, August 20th. For more information please contact Scott Swinkels @ 250-995-2290 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Some Junior C athletes can easily fall through the cracks during the fall season, and the GNRC Junior C program is way too much fun to let that happen!
The Gorge Narrows will once again be running a Fall Junior C rowing program. This program focuses on athletes who cannot participate in the Fall High School League because their middle school does not have an exhibition program.
During the fall season athletes will row twice over the weekend, and erg once through the week, practicing a total of three times a week. This is to ensure that athletes at this developmental age can actively participate in other sports if they want. Where appropriate and applicable, athletes may be able to participate in GVYRS sanctioned regattas as exhibition and/or the Head and Tail of the Gorge Regatta.
Dates: September 6th – November 5th, 2017
Practice Schedule: Wednesday 4pm-6:15pm, Saturday and Sunday 12:30pm - 2:30pm
